President 'sincere, resolute' on issue of Taiwan, says opposition party boss as mainland tour comes to end
People First Party (PFP) chairman James Soong Chu-yu has heaped praise on Communist Party general secretary Hu Jintao, describing him as a man of true sincerity.
Mr Soong gave his personal assessment of the president in an interview with Hong Kong-based Phoenix Television on Thursday after meeting him in Beijing. Excerpts of the interview were released yesterday as the Taiwanese opposition leader left Beijing for Taiwan.
'When it came to Taiwan issues, [Mr Hu] expressed his views in a manner that was very sincere while being very resolute,' Mr Soong said. He met the mainland leader for two hours on Thursday and later had a private dinner with him.
The Taiwanese politician said he particularly admired Mr Hu's ability to master details of issues such as the economic situation and international relations.
'I could see general secretary Hu has the aura of a national leader,' he said.
When asked about Vice-President Zeng Qinghong , whom he met on Wednesday, Mr Soong said Mr Zeng was meticulous.
