Product: Dell Dimension4600C Price: $6,981 upwards Pros: Basic configuration already offers a powerful feature set at an attractive price Cons: While it may be small for a Dell, it is still big compared with personal computers from Japan and Taiwan
The Dimension 4600C from Dell Computer is the first slim PC from the American PC maker known for making powerful but bulky systems. The 4600C is 60 per cent smaller than its predecessor but is packed with features. It has eight USB 2.0 ports, two of which are front-accessible, making it easy for customers to connect devices like digital cameras, external hard drives and MP3 players.
A PC aimed at home users, the Dimension 4600C will ship standard with Dell Media Experience software, digital entertainment software to make watching DVDs, downloading video clips and archiving digital photos easy.
Priced starting at HK$6,981, the Dimension 4600C includes a 2.6 gigahertz Pentium 4 processor with hyper-threading technology, 256 megabytes of shared DDR-400 memory, a 40 gigabyte hard drive, a 24X CD-ROM, integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2, integrated 5.1 channels audio and 17-inch CRT monitor. You could of course upgrade to higher speed processors, better graphics card and DVD burner, but that'll cost you.
Dell's advantage is if you want a brand-name PC, it's probably cheaper than the IBM and HP PCs. But if you are not fussy about brand names, the choices out there are much wider.
