He died on Sunday at a hospital in Antibes, southern France, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Davies, who was appointed editor in 1964, was credited with developing the magazine from a Hong Kong-based business paper into a leading source of informed news and analysis about the region.
He was also president of the Foreign Correspondents' Club from 1987-89.
'Nobody did more for regional journalism than Derek Davies,' said Philip Bowring, a former Review editor.
