Sweet sensations

Indie party Brown Sugar is back tomorrow night at Amnesia (30 Hollywood Road, Central, opposite New York Fitness on the Mid-Levels escalator) following last month's success. While the local club scene has been dominated by dance beats, this party serves as an alternative for fans of guitar-oriented music. Various DJs, including residents Vapour Trial Boys plus two special guests - legendary local radio show host Wong Chi-chung and Justin Sweeting from the Zodiac, Oxford, a club owned by Radiohead, Ride and Supergrass - will play music ranging from 1970s indie classics to 1990s Britpop hits, new wave and new releases. Lights out

Here's a bit of disappointing news. It's been announced that the second Hong Kong Electronic Music Festival (HKEMF) will be postponed until further notice due to cold weather, according to a statement from the Hong Kong Electronic Music Foundation. The Hong Kong Observatory says the temperature at the weekend will drop to 12 degrees Celsius in urban areas and two to three degrees lower in the New Territories. Since the HKEMF was set to take place at Chep Lap Kok Airport, organisers are concerned about the effect low temperatures will have on the audience. Rising sons

'Tis the season to get funky. On Christmas Eve, a party called Motomanic will be held at Hitec, Kowloon Bay. Five of Japan's top DJs will be flying in, including top man Taka-Jun (right), who has made appearances in some of the world's most famous party towns, including Miami and Ibiza. The dance event is a Pure Japanese production, the first to be held in Hong Kong. Japan's top visual artist, Ikta, will also be here.

Paradise awaits

The Hard Rock Cafe (30 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Tel: 2375 1323) will have a party called the Garden of Eden on Christmas Eve. Resident band Chater Box will be playing rock, pop and R'n'B. There will be a free flow of forbidden fruits and condoms and a chance to win a trip to Pattaya and Bali. The party starts at 10.30pm with $200 cover charge including two drinks.

At Home (2/F, 23 Hollywood Road, Central), DJs Thomas, Michael and Teng Boon will play soulful vocal house, funky Afro-rhythms and uplifting New York house from 10pm to 9am on Christmas Day, with admission of $120 including two standard drinks. On the same day at Liquid (5 Elgin Street, Central) from 5pm onwards, DJs Eric Bryon, Kulu, Chris Sorenson, Teng Boon, LadyStar, Steve Pau and Greg will take turns to spin till late. Krush-ed

It comes as another disappointment that both Lo Fidelity Allstars and DJ Krush will not be flying into town for Way Out East's New Year's Eve bash. The production company says the reasons are beyond their control but Cut La Roc (of Skint) will be with Japan's Ko Kimura and Washington's Odessa at the North Point Ferry Pier, plus local hip-hop star DJ Tommy and many others. Tickets cost $360 in advance from all HMV stores; $400 at the door.
