A glass of water used to mean a trip to the kitchen tap. Now it takes a visit to the supermarket and a toss-up between an ever-increasing range of bottles.
There's distilled water, mineral water, mineralised water, natural mineral water, spring water and oxygenated water. And, if you weren't confused enough already, now there's distilled water with minerals.
Watsons Water, which for a century has been selling distilled water as the cleaner, purer alternative, is venturing into enemy territory.
'Watsons Water with minerals is one of the innovations we're bringing out to show we're listening to the consumer,' Watsons Water general manager Chris Atkins said.
The launch follows an extensive consultation exercise with shoppers, and coincides with the release of a facial water spray, a new-look dispenser and a dispenser that adds oxygen to the water as you pour.
'Clearly there's a market for water with minerals in it, whether it's source mineral water or like this, with minerals added. We're saying if you want a choice, here's the choice. They're both Watsons distilled water but one has minerals added to it,' Mr Atkins said.
