Champion-elect Robbie Fradd is the South African rider who has most to be thankful about since landing at the old Kai Tak airport two years ago to begin a fresh phase in his career.
Fradd, invariably ready to answer any call, takes out the vastly interesting Housemaster for former champion trainer, Ivan Allan, in an eye-catching Champions & Chater Cup at Sha Tin.
Fradd, who has a lot more friends than enemies in the game, has ridden for virtually everybody in Hong Kong and his engagement for Housemaster, fourth in last year's Epsom Derby to the Kieren Fallon-ridden Oath, is significant.
He actually takes over from David Harrison, who returned recently to resume his career in England.
Said Allan: 'I was pleased to get Robbie because I think he has taken his Hong Kong chance really well. He gives everything he rides a decent go and I'm sure he will do everything possible on Housemaster.
'I think the key to the outcome of the race could simply be the distance. For a few strides I thought he was going to win the Derby in March but it was on the sharp side for him.' Housemaster finished second to Keen Winner in the $8 million Hong Kong Derby over 2,000 metres with the official margin just half a length.
