As usual, Technology Post was inundated with holiday cards and little gifts from our friends in the IT community.
Hard-drive maker Quantum, which last year sent us a pair of boxer shorts labelled 'a reliable and user-friendly storage device', outdid itself with a millennium party pack, including Y2K party hats, balloons, noisemakers, and the ubiquitous t-shirt.
At least it did not contribute to the annual pile of desk calendars and appointment books, which despite the fact that everyone in the IT field uses Palm Pilots or some handheld equivalent, was no smaller than in previous years.
Maybe next year they should all try little red envelopes with cash.
Backspace was in attendance at the Richard Li-sponsored, Hong Kong Cancer Fund Utopia Millennium bash on New Year's Eve.
Utopia had a cyber-futuristic theme, meaning all the staff sported metallic shirts and grey face paint or makeup. Only a few attendees - most were socialites and their underdressed-for-December tai-tai friends - had that glittery grey thing going on.
