On two occasions, I have almost been run over at the tram stop on Wong Nai Chung Road, Happy Valley.
Two months ago, a foreign lady drove her car past a stationary tram as I was alighting. She even honked her horn and glared at me for crossing the road while she was driving down the road. She probably thought she had the right of way, which is not the case.
Again on Sunday, April 18, at 8pm, my son and I were nearly run over by a white jeep at the same stop.
We thought we were safe, as a bus had correctly stopped just behind the stationary tram. Suddenly this white jeep appeared right beside us and drove off without stopping. The Asian driver, a young man, had dashed between the bus and the tram.
Can the relevant government department assure me that foreign drivers who hold international licences or 'converted local licences' are informed about the rule of stopping at tram stops when passengers are alighting? Perhaps government adverts on TV or through a poster campaign could remind drivers of this rule before someone gets run over and killed.
If this department would like to know the licence number of the white jeep, I will gladly provide it.
