MELBOURNE Cup-winning jockey Wayne Harris yesterday had talks with director of racing Philip Johnston in a bid to secure a brief riding stint in Hong Kong towards the end of the season.
Harris, who gave a tremendous display in winning the International Bowl on Monopolize last month, left for a two-week spell in Singapore last night. He said at Happy Valley yesterday morning: 'I am very pleased with the way things have gone in Australia recently. Winning the Magic Millions was another boost and I am having a fortnight in Singapore.
'I would love to come up to Hong Kong for a month or so towards the end of the season, particularly as it is Neville's [Begg] last season,' he added.
Trainer Neville Begg, who part-owns Monopolize, is Harris' father-in-law while brother-in-law Grahame trained the Bowl hero.
Harris won the Melbourne Cup on Jeune in 1994 and could be aboard the English-bred galloper if he runs in the World Cup in Dubai in March.
Johnston said: 'Wayne came to see me and we had a brief talk about opportunities that might come up towards the end of the season.
