An economy bursting with activity distinguishes Asia as the centre for creation - be it from producing the smallest electronic components to building the biggest and most advanced factories.

As the region's inward investments rise, so does its consumption of raw materials, including chemicals and pigments used in a variety of manufacturing applications. The world's second-largest consumer of chemicals, China is forecast to increase its consumption, particularly of high-value-added imported chemicals. The rest of burgeoning Asia is projected to follow suit - and fuel demand not only for basic commodities, but also for value-added and innovative products from the world's best chemicals and pigment solutions suppliers.

Ready to rise to the challenge are two of Finland's most dynamic companies in the chemical and pigment sectors, Chemec and FP-Pigments, whose worldwide recognition is founded on research and development (R&D).

"Customer-focused innovations, strong in-house research and extensive co-operation with academic and research institutions are the foundations of success in these industries," says

Mikko Maijala, chairman of Chemec and FP-Pigments. "As we have in Europe, we aim to bring to Asia the quality, reliability and technological edge that will in turn drive the success of our customers."

About 20 per cent of the groups' 130 personnel focus on R&D and collaborate with universities and research organisations throughout Europe and the United States.

Chemec and FP-Pigments conduct research in-house at the R&D centre located in the Raisio facility, which was acquired from international chemicals giant BASF.
